Decision adopted by members of the local parliament in Kotor: Economic Affairs Advisor to the local government said that phase IV of the project of improvement of water supply and wastewater disposal in Kotor involves building a joint wastewater treatment facility in close cooperation with Tivat authorities, rehabilitation of the existing regional water conduit up to water pumping station and consulting services. The flag and the arms of Kotor have officially been granted yesterday.

Kotor - Members of the Parliament of Kotor adopted the decision yesterday regarding application of the local government for EUR 6.77 million KFW bank loan in order to invest this money in the phase IV of the project of improvement of water supply and wastewater disposal on the Montenegrin Coast. The deadline for loan repayment is one decade and a half including a three-year period of grace.

Economic Affairs Advisor to the local government- Ivo Magud said that this phase of the project for Kotor involves building a joint wastewater treatment facility in close cooperation with Tivat authorities, rehabilitation of the existing regional water conduit up to water pumping station and consulting services.

The total amount of this investment is EUR 7.5 million, and the balance of EUR 753 thousand will be earmarked from the municipal budget.

The Manager of “Vodacom”, Boris Vukovic, said that the whole project should be implemented in four years.

“The future facility will be located within the municipal territory of Tivat, and it has already been included in their spatial plans. The location where the facility is going to be built is government-owned in one part, and in the other it belongs to the local authorities of Tivat. If the consulting services begin in September, procedure of developing the project and inviting tenders can be finished in only five months, after which we can start with the works”, Vukovic said adding that the loan debt of the municipality of Tivat will be EUR 9,5 million.

The location of the future wastewater treatment plant is the cove of 5 hectares land area above Djurasevici and the facility will cover an area of two or three hectares of land.

Somewhat surprisingly, Kotor was among a few Montenegrin cities which did not have a coat of arms and flag defined by law until now. The local parliament in Kotor voted yesterday by a sweeping majority and the city was granted its official coat of arms and flag. Kotor has used centuries-old coat of arms, but it is now for the first time defined by law and its use is legally regulated.

The proposal for the coat of arms and the flag was submitted by the Cultural Council of the local government and it was designed with professional assistance of the heraldist Srdjan Marlovic.

The flag of the municipality of Kotor has two equal vertical bands of white (hoist side) and red with the coat of arms in the middle. There is a golden scroll at the bottom bearing the name of the municipality in Latin “Communitas Civitatis Cathari”. The coat of arms features triangular heraldic shield which comprises three heraldic figures– Saint Tripun with a golden halo above his head (left), stone tower (right) and a lion at the bottom. The shield is supported by two lions in a leaping or “salient” position and two green laurel branches crossed.

MPs rejected the call of the MP Emil Krijestorac (People’s party) for amendment to the submitted proposal which concerned erasing the title in Latin.
