Port of Kotor Becomes International

Kotor – Executive Director of the Port of Kotor, Ljubo Radovic confirmed at yesterday’s session of Kotor’s Parliament that the new Law on Ports, which is to be adopted soon, foresees that Kotor would receive the status on an international port. Radovic said this in a response to the question posed by Counselor of Socialist People’s Party (SNP), Radomir Djukic.

He also announced that part of the jurisdiction would be transferred to the state.

“The most important segment is the fact that the infrastructure of the Port of Kotor would be placed under the auspices of the Ministry”, Radovic said.

He added that it was of utmost importance to introduce such Law and that the “issue of what kind of impact certain provisions of this Law would have for the Port of Kotor itself, is an entirely different topic.”

“The issue which is certainly significant for the Port of Kotor is the possibility it could maintain its’ original activity, which is to provide port services for passenger boats and yachts”, Radovic said.

He added that everyday business brings about numerous problems, also reminding that the Law on Yachts, which came to power on 1 January, is still not implemented fully, as certain provisions had not been adopted yet, nor had they been harmonized with the existing sub-legislative acts.

Counselors have unanimously adopted the report on business activities of Port of Kotor for 2007. In words of Radovic, amount earned – Euro 261,318 – presents a good business result.

“During the last year, we have registered the arrival of 177 ships and 1,025 yachts”, Radovic said.

Counselors also adopted the report on the budgetary incomes in the first six months of this year. The amount of Euro 5,2 Millions is by 70% more than it has been planed.

Counselors also adopted changes for the salaries for local officials, which increases the quote of earning for the president of Municipality to 14,5, president of the Assembly to 13 and vice presidents’ and chief administrator’s to 12,5. Price of work at Kotor’s Municipality is Euro 75.

Counselors have also supported the candidature of Kotor for the membership in the International Association of Towns-Peace Envoys and adopted a set of rules regulating ownership rights, report on the expenditures of KFW Bank for Intervention Measures 2, as well as reports on the achievements for Communal Enterprise and Cultural Center “Nikola Djurkovic”.

Continuation of the session is set for 29 July.
