Podgorica – Tree operators of mobile phones will fight for the market in Montenegro, which will go in favor to the users who can expect vary favorable prices of services, said yesterday the representatives of mobile operators who were given the 15 years licenses for the advanced 3G network.
Except the license for mobile operators, the Agency for telecommunications yesterday gave also three licenses for wireless Internet to companies MTEL, T-Mobile, and Broadband Montenegro, as well as one license for giving of telecommunication services to the company MNNews from Podgorica.
Since yesterday, Montenegro with the existing T-Mobile and Promonte, will have a third operator of mobile phones, MTEL, whose founders are Telekom Serbia and an unknown Netherlands company Ogalar behind which stands the Serbian businessman Miroslav Miskovic.
The expectation that the entrance of the third mobile operator will bring a stronger competition and cheaper services for users, yesterday confirmed the general director of Telekom Serbia Drasko Petrovic, announcing “significantly favorable and competitive prices”. Telekom Serbia, except in Serbia, has also covered the market of Republic Srpska, and Montenegro.
The users can expect very favorable and competitive prices which will be the result of the synergy of the markets of Serbia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, and Montenegro – said Petrovic.
The goal is, as he said, to “in a shortest possible period” win 15 to 20% of the market. Current market of Montenegro is shared by Promonte (58%), and T-Mobile (42%). The owner of Promonte is Norwegian giant Telenor who also covers the market of Serbia, and the owner of Montenegrin telekom is Hungarian Madjar Teleco, whose major owner is the German giant Deutsch telecom.
- We intend to start with the commercial work in July, and that until the end of the year we want to cover almost 90% of the territory of Montenegro, which means that the citizens will have the network which will best cover the territory of Montenegro, which will offer modern technologies, and new services from video – phoning, VPN service to the wide range approach to the internet – announced Petrovic.
- I can promise that very hard time is in front of us, but also very fun time of market fight. All three operators will develop market competitiveness and he benefit of that will have the users. Company Promonte is the leader and it intends to justify that in the future – said Gustad. He explained that 3G, whose commercial exploiting will begin on the 1st of July allows the application of new technologies and services, of which the most important one is HSPA – fastness of the Internet which can be measured with the fastness of ADSL.
Bence Makai, the president of the Board of directors of Montenegrin telekom in whose part is T-Mobile, said that Podgorica has already been covered with 3G signal and announced that the company will be in chance to offer its best services adjusted to the needs of the users.
Speaking about the investments Petrovic said that in the first three years in the development of the mobile phone network and wireless internet over 50 millions of euros will be invested, and about 150 workers of various profiles will be employed, who will work in the seat of the company and in the retail objects all over Montenegro.
- But that is not all, because our investments in the next three years will be another 50 millions of euros… Our company in Montenegro obliges itself to influence with these investments on the further business growth of entire community, and on the other hand it has the intention to show the social corporative responsibility towards the development of sport, science, culture, art, and other activities – said Petrovic.
MTEL has paid for the licenses for mobile phones and wireless Internet 17, 05 millions of euros. T-Mobile paid for the licenses of 3G and wireless Internet 2, 572 millions of euros, and Promonte for 3G 4, 01 million of euros. Broadband got the license of wireless Internet for 275.000 euros.
OPERATORS ARE READY TO INVEST 176 MILLIONS

Vice-president of the Government Vujica Lazovic thanked the operators because they are ready to invest about 176 millions of euros.
- Investments, new working places, new technological possibilities and standards, identical to the ones in the most developed countries of the world, give, no doubt, a great contribution to further business development of Montenegro on its way towards the membership in EU – thinks Lazovic.
He said that Montenegro, as all other countries in transition, does not have sufficient money to quickly carry out the universal service (availability of telecommunication services for all citizens) and other projects, but that he is convinces that that can be surpassed by establishing partnership with the operators and with the cooperation which will be of use to the state, citizens, and operators.
