James Bond the greatest commercial for tourism

29 Nov 2006 09:13 +0100

- I have never been in Montenegro, but I hope that now their tourism will erupt. If that happens, I am expecting a reward of the Montenegrin tourist community – the director of the movie “Casino Royale”, the 21st serial about James Bond, Martin Campbell, made a joke giving an interview to the Croatian “Vecernji list”.

“Casino Royal” is based on a same named novel of Ian Fleming, which was published in 1953. and is the first novel about the agent 007. The movie follows the early carrier of James Bond. His first mission as an agent 007 is taking him to the Le Chiffre, the world terrorists’ bank man. In order to stop him, and to route the terrorist network, Bond has to win a poker party of high stakes, which is held in the casino “Royale”, in Montenegro, which is the central part of the action of the movie. After the world premier of this achievement, which was held on the 16th of November, in the cinema “Odeon” in London, on certain web sites a greater number of visits than usual were marked.

On the sites that we are observing, among which among others are www.visit-montenegro.com., www.photo-montenegro.com, www.destination-montenegro.com... the number of visits is 5 times bigger than usually – it was said in the Red Wand agency (www.red-wand.com).

The scenes in which poker is played also represent a very important part of the story for the director of the new achievement about James Bond.
- That is not a movie about playing cards, but it was very important to describe well that poker game – crossed face expressions of the heroes, reaction at the table, gross plan of the cards – because of everything which is being built around it. And it was much harder to shoot that, than all those action scenes for which I think that were physically most demanding in the entire serial – explained the director, who had a very difficult task to introduce a completely new actor in this cult serial about the most famous secret agent.

The new about the raise of the number of questions, that is, the visits of some of the Montenegrin sites, because of the placing of the part of the action of the movie about the popular agent 007 in Montenegro, will maybe finally, show, to those who still are not aware of that, the importance of the presentation through the global network and investment in Internet as a media. Also, this example should point out the exquisite role of the 7th art in promotion of Montenegro all over the world.

Campbell’s predictions for the eruption of the Montenegrin tourism do not have to be far from the truth, however, potential tourists, with their arrival in Montenegro, after seeing the movie, could be disappointed with what they see. Not one single scene of the achievement about the agent 007 was shot here. In the first scene which takes the spectator to Montenegro a modern train is shown, a lot like Japanese ones, which Montenegrin people rarely see in their lives. The interior of the train, with which the agent 007 arrives to our country, is also modern, with kind waiters, who, just as those in the hotel, where the poker party is being played, speak English perfectly. The Montenegrin flag however is shown just as it really looks like, whirling at the entrance of the hotel where the key scene of the movie will be played. To a Montenegrin which is used to not having water at the coast, will find interesting the scene from the hotel bathroom – Bond and his girlfriend under the shower from where the water is gushes everywhere.
