Herceg Novi – “Your invitation has stirred the emotions in me and reminded me on the days I spent in Herceg Novi, but for a long time I haven’t been going out in public, and I can not accept to be your guest”, said to the Direction of the “Festivity of mimosa” Jovanka Broz, former first lady of SFRJ.
The idea that Jovanka Broz should come on Herceg Novi flower fiesta has been existing for three or four years, and recently through her relatives in Belgrade we have sent her an invitation, because for a long time she has been only communicating with the outer world through intermediates. The intention of the representatives of the Festivity of mimosa, who stayed for three days in the capital of Serbia, to give her a bouquet of mimosa could not be realized. Namely the visits to her home have to be announced 7 days earlier.
The exhibition of the flowers, one of the traditional programs of the “Festivity of mimosa”, this year will be organized in Villa “Galeb” (GULL), in Igalo, former winter residence of the former president of SFRJ, Josip Broz Tito. Tito and Jovanka for several years, just in time of the “Festivity of mimosa” stayed in villa. Jovanka in 1977 opened the III international exhibition of flowers. Beside Tito, the exhibition was attended by at that time high officials of the state, Vidoje Zarkovic, Edvard Kardelj, and Stane Dolanc.
Some of the organizers of that exhibition remember that Jovanka Broz with a lot of excitement and care has accepted the duty to open the exhibition, and in the following years she was the regular visitor of that manifestation.
They have planned to offer Jovanka Broz to be the guests of the Institute Igalo for a month.
Even though the news that Jovanka Broz was invited to be a guest of the “Festivity of mimosa” in Herceg Novi still hasn’t got the publicity, in the town it could be heard that the wife of the former president of SFRJ was in the mood to come to Herceg Novi, but she didn’t get the authorization of the authorities in Belgarde.
