Less than two hours from the sea, high in the rocky mountain range, often obscured by clouds and mist, lies Ostrog Monastery - the most famous pilgrim place in Montenegro. It was built in the 17 century by metropolitan Vasilije from Herzegovina, who lies buried in the Monastery and has been proclaimed a Saint miracle worker.
Ostrog Monastery is the place where people belonging to different faiths (Orthodox, Catholic, Muslim...) come. The main reason for this is the belief that the relics of St. Vasilije are miraculous. Pilgrims say that a prayer in front of the relics helps in recovery or in lessening the misfortunes of life. Besides the Ostrog Monastery you will also see the unique Dajbabe Monastery, dedicated to the Ascension of the Virgin Mary. It is built in a natural cave and the only visible part out of the church is the spacious doorway with the two belfries.
