Podgorica – “Plavi voz” (Blue train) with which the president of SFRJ Josip Broz Tito used to travel yesterday was once again in Podgorica and reminded the people nostalgic for Yugoslavia on times when, as they say, they lived well from Triglav to Djevdjelija.
Except the big plasma TV in the conference room, in the “Blue train” everything is in the spirit of 1960’s. When in 1959 it went for a journey for the first time a story began with which very few trains on the planet can praise with.
Since that 1959 until Tito’s death in 1980 the “Blue train” passed more than 600.000 kilometers. More than 60 most famous statesmen and crowned heads of that time, and many other famous names were received in it – starting from the leader of the non-union movement Nehru, Sukam, Castro, Gaddafi, over the soviet president Brezhnev, to the emperor Haile Selassie, Greek royal couple, English queen Elisabeth II, prince Philip, and princess Anne.
The “Blue train” by the wish of the lifetime president of Yugoslavia was designed and made by craftsmen of Maribor “Boris Kidric” and “Gosa” from Smedervska Palanka. The composition of the “Blue train” was made of ten wagons, which gave complete comfort to demanding passengers. The main part of the composition was made of the president’s salon, wagon for conferences, cuisine, guest salon, wagon restaurant, wagon for transport of cars, energetic cars, in order for the that hotel on wheels never to be left standing on the rails. Present maximal capacity of the train is 110 passengers and the Railroad of Serbia, in whose ownership that train is, has been using it for already two years in commercial purposes.
In the book of impressions only praises and regret for the lifetime president can be read. In one page it says: “Tito was the man” signed by Macedonians.
Last Tito’s trip was with the “Blue train” when the coffin with his body was brough from Ljubljana to Belgrade.
The train was last time in Podgorica in 1995 when a state deleation from Hungary came with it in Podgorica.
