Ostrog Monastery

One of most visited places in Montenegro is Monastery Ostrog. This magnificent and unique  monastery is located above the Bjelopavlic valley, near Niksic. Carved deep and high in rocks, as though keeping old secrets of this shrine. 

Less than two hours driving from the coast, often obscured by clouds and mist, the most famous pilgrim place in Montenegro. It was built in the 17 century by metropolitan Vasilije from Herzegovina, who lies buried in the Monastery and has been proclaimed a Saint miracle worker.

Many tourists visiting this marvelous monastery because it is believed to have magical powers (a prayer in front of the relics helps in recovery or in lessening the misfortunes of life). Monastery Ostrog is visited by people of all religions (Orthodox, Catholic, Muslim…) and belongs to the most visited religious places in this area.
