Zabljak – For the woman from Belgrade Neda Jerkovic the obsession with Durmitor began 6 years ago. The final word for her gave a friend – a mountain climber from Sarajevo who said, “Durmitor is for you, go there and you will see, you will forget everything else, you can’t be told about it”.
– That was the case. For years I can’t describe it in words. One has to see that and will never see enough of it. My first meeting with Durmitor began on the bridge on Tara. In the middle of the bridge I stopped the car and ran on the other side watching the canyon and the river. I felt powerless to see enough, and especially to say something. And all those years it is the same, the joy, the admiration which cannot be expressed with one sensible sentence, Neda is trying to express her first impressions.
She says that in the school she found about Gorske oci, the national park, she watched on TV, postcards, and prospects.
– That was very little. When I came on Crno jezero everything stopped for me. Only Durmitor between the lake and the sky. And after that from one lake to the other, and on those plum, mountain ones and on those which look like lace, which have been covered with shrubbery. Skrka takes your breath away. Barno Lake makes you feel swinging if you get to close to it, and on Zmijnje Lake everyone’s a poet. And just like that, there are more and more reasons for you to come back says Neda which is enchanted by the people from Durmitor also.
– As if I had been looking for them for all of my life. As if you are coming back from far away and they are expecting you. A man of the new age talks too much and hears too little, and on Durmitor you need to be quiet and everything will be said to you. Listen to them carefully. And when they are silent, looking upon the sky – then you will find out the most, about them and about yourself says Neda and in everything she finds love.
To be a tourist worker on Zabljak is really specific. It is not enough to give a brochure to aguest or a prospect and send him off. You need to stretch the map in front of him/her and tell him/her everything. Estimate him/her, and make a plan of the tour for him/her, or maybe even take him into the mountain. They usually come on two or three days and mostly for the first time. A great task is to make them familiar with everything in two days, and people from Durmitor do that very well, says Neda and concludes that happy people live on Durmitor.
When your heart is full and it starts leaking that is love. I love Montenegro, a lot and for a long time. Between Durmitor and Durmitor sometimes there are Risan and Kotor. In Belgrade I often wish that instead of to bed I have to go on train for Bar, to wake up in Mojkovac and watch through the windows the areas all the way towards Podgorica says Neda.
I am happy with the fact that I can share my enthusiasm and my thrill with Durmitor with others. Already for third year in a row I have been organizing vacation on Durmitor for my colleagues from Folk bank of Serbia. During the summer promenades and rest, during the winter skiing. Durmitor is an ideal place for vacation of people who work highly responsible jobs and who are tied to an office. Specially for them I have prepared promenades over the Durmitor area, and I do not regret to spend the time and effort when I see happy faces and when everyone who comes for the first time on Durmitor immediately signs up for the next year. Except with the nature, and the ambience people are thrilled with the food and hospitality of Durmitor households.
SOCIALIZING WITH THE YOUNG PEOPLE
When two years ago I met Sinisa Stevovic I got included in the work of his organization NGO Most. And as their motto says: “What is a men if he/she doesn’t make the world a better place” my love towards Zabljak and Durmitor could become concrete. I have worked as a lecturer in their school of computers and have spent time with young people from Zabljak – more than it was planned. They have won me with their sharpness, and the speed of acquiring of knowledge. They got diplomas and I got 10 beautiful days spent with them – says Neda.
Her knowledge of foreign languages and the need to constantly transmit the impressions about this area were the ideal basis for her to accept last summer to be a volunteer in Tourist organization.
