Podgorica – International maritime organization (IMO) has notified Montenegrin Ministry of traffic, navigation, and telecommunications that Montenegro has been put on the so-called “White list”, which means that Montenegrin sailors will be able to sail on all seas in all countries which are found on that list.
– Even though Montenegro in previous state frames had recognized institutions, and respected the international conventions in navigation we had to start again the procedure of entering into the membership of IMO – said for “Vijesti” Srdjan Vukcevic, the assistant in the Ministry of traffic, navigation and telecommunications.
He said that placement of Montenegro on the “White list” is especially important because of the employment of sailors.
– We are estimating that on the world seas, and under the flags of different countries at the moment there are 4.500 Montenegrin sailors. Now without any problem they will be able to find a job on our and on foreign ships. The authorizations, which will be issued by our maritime institutions, will be internationally recognized – said Vukcevic.
