Herceg Novi – Naval Architecture & Yacht Design Inc. in Herceg Novi is the most renowned bureau for projecting of yachts and smaller ships in Montenegro, but also in the region. It has been working already for a year, and since last week it is in the new premises. There are four engineers working in the bureau, and the owner is Ivan Erdevicki. This man born in Novi for 8 years owns in Vancouver in Canada his own project bureau which has the same name. And until now he has been collaborating in Boka with his colleague Branko Zgradic.
Erdevicki and his bureau are projecting 20 vessels a year; from exclusive mega yachts, over the firefighter and the ships of the coast guard up to the small ships for the needs of the army.
Now he is working on 8 projects. Among them on a 31 meter aluminum ultra modern yachts with sails which is intended for traveling around the world. They are also working on the motor yacht which is 15 meters long for the serial production for the Dubai market, on 42 meter “Landing Craft” for transport on Alaska, on a 25 meter motor yacht of steel trunk and Plexiglas addition which is meant for the comfortable and long sailing. He is also working for the coast guard and navy of Canada and Mexico. On his table he has three idea projects for 18 meters speedy motor yachts, 25 meter yachts with sails for serial production in China and two meters longer version of the Dubai project.
Erdevicki most often “follows through” his product from the idea draft, through the construction, up to its going out from the shipbuilding yard. Soon he will escort and dive in the 48 meter aluminum traveling yacht which his team has projected.
Inventive and always turned to modern technologies and finding out of new solutions Erdevicki now is developing a new concept of a unique yacht of 400 feet (120 meters) which he will display on this year’s fair in Monaco on which he has been successfully participating for already third year in a row. Until now in the bureau Naval Architecture & Yacht Design Inc. 55 projects have been done by order of which 42 have been carried out. His clients are from all over the world: from America, Canada, Italy, Greece, Hong Kong, Russia. He also had one client from Montenegro for whom he did an idea solution for the yacht “Beauty of Montenegro”.
In the world of yachts today’s technology of production, projecting and materials allows a successful construction of the most complicated and most demanding shapes and constructions of the boat, and offer the buyer almost anything that he wants, so the limits of the construction of the most luxurious yachts are only limited with the imagination and the budget of the buyer – says Erdevicki.
And the demands of the rich buyers are various, from the fact that they arte asking a helicopter on a ship, a small submarine or a pool projected as a Jacuzzi, as well as that they can communicate all the time from any part of the world through the internet or the phone with whom they want. The idea, explains Erdevicki, is that the rich owners of the yachts have the possibility to sail wherever they want not depriving themselves of luxury and safety.
And how much that luxury costs?
– The price depends on many factors, from the level of the luxury, exotics of the systems on the ship, explains Erdevicki, but for the sake of orientation he says “that average motor yacht of 35 meters, made by order costs between 9 and 12 millions of euros, if it is built in some of the European shipbuilding yards. Those most luxurious and the biggest ones, such as Dubai, cost around 200 millions of euros. One such floating palace “Prince Abdulaziz” people from Boka could see recently, but only from the outside, during its small repair in Adriatic shipbuilding yard Bijela.
FAVORITE – DURABO 100
– If I can separate my favorite project and the ship that is the 31 meter aluminum ultra modern yacht with sails which is meant for sailing around the world “Durabo 100” on which I am working at the moment – states Erdevicki.
Durabo is an ultimate cruiser projected for the former competitor on “Vendee Globe Chalenge” regatta around the world without docking in. Just like his skipper the yacht is unique too and different from the boats in its class, starting from the waver lines of upraise of the deck to the unusual self-standing carbon masts. It has 6 non-passable compartments. With it one can sail around the world in complete comfort and safety, and it is projected in that way that only one man can serve it and sail on the boat. Two motor of 220 kW of electrical stirring have been put in. the diving of the yacht, which will be built in Vancouver is planned for the May of 2009.
With the project Durabo 100 Erdevicki will apply for the prestigious world award “Super yacht awards”.
THE RICH ARE SAFEST IN THE OPEN SEA
The construction of the super and mega yachts is in constant increase in the last few years, especially after the terrorist attack on New York in 2001. Among the rich world a psychology thought started to rule that it is good to have a bigger sailing palace with which in the case of danger, one can reach in any part of the world. In the years 2005 and 2006 the biggest growth compared to the previous two years experienced the construction of yachts from 24 to 42 meters of length. The biggest number of yachts at the moment is being built in Europe, and especially in the part of the navigation industry of bigger and great yachts over 25 meters long. Italy is still leading with over 60% of construction of mega yachts.
