Podgorica – sailing in of big ships in the bay of Boka Kotorska can be damaging ad dangerous for flora and fauna, not just in the bay, but also in the entire Adriatic. That was said for Antena M the only docent doctor of Zooplankton, oceanography and protection of the sea in the region Vera Vukanic. She explained that the big ships carry ballast waters which they take in in the ocean, and they unbruden them in our waters and input the species which can unsettle the eco system and can be even dangerous for human.
– It is dangerous, because that is one of the ways to put in the species which can be dangerous and which can provoke great ecological disorders in our territorial waters. On the current flora and fauna in bay of Boka Kotorska that influences and can influence by making the disorder of the ecological balance – said Vukanic.
She said that in Montenegro there is no control, or monitoring of the unloading of ballast waters, that is, of waste materials in territorial waters, which can drastically slow down the entering of the country in EU.
– Basically, ballast waters should not be unloaded in bay of Boka Kotorska, because it is deep inside the land, and it is an enclosed area. However, Montenegro doesn’t have any kind of monitoring, nor the control of those ballast waters, which have been carried in by the ships and that is one of the problems in our territorial waters. The lack of mentoring and total absence of the research and observation of the situation can slow down the entering of Montenegro in European integrations, because one of the demands of EU is to observe the situation in territorial waters – said Vukanic for Radio Antena M.
DANGEROUS MEDUSA IN OUR SEA
_ Last year in august, I have registered a medusa which in English territorial waters is better known as “sea nettle”. It is an extremely dangerous kind and it can reach the size of 50 cm in diameter of its bubble, and if it anneals you it can cause death. It is also a predator, so it can influence our fishing, science, and eco system of our territorial waters, and of the Adriatic in general – said Vera Vukanic.
