Budva – World popular singers J.K., Hugh Morgan and rap singer Exhibit, supermodels Caprice and Jodie Kid, actors from the “Star Wars” and “Football factory” Hayden Christiansen, and Deni Dyer are just some of the rich and famous world jet-set who in their expensive and fast cars stormed yesterday through Montenegro, as a part of the glamorous rely called “Gumball 3000”.
The participants of the extravagant caravan after London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Athens, Ohrid… came in on the cross border Sukobin about 10 o’clock, and then through Ulcinj, Bar, and Budva they came on Debeli brijeg, on their way to Dubrovnik, which was the goal of the yesterday’s stage.
One of the most popular relies in the world, with the cars which are millions and millions of dollars worth, has provoked a great attention of the citizens of coastal Montenegrin towns through which the luxurious four wheelers went through. Even though they were announced as a convoy, the participants of Gumball yesterday individually, or in smaller groups made of several expensive cars cruised over our shore. Though it is familiar that the rich drivers are behaving without any scruples, and often drive too fast, argue with the police and do not obey the traffic regulations, but that was not the case with their passing through in Montenegro. Maybe because of the frequent works on Adriatic highway and through the towns, the drivers of these precious vehicles behaved very nice, so there were no excesses that are characteristic for the participants of this rely.
Very expensive vehicles of nowadays – from “Mclaren”, Ferrari”, “Bugatti”, “Rolls Royces”, up to “made up” “Spacheks” and ancient hippie vans, and London cab vehicles as well as about another 100 cars have provoked the thrill in local people. That they like the attention which they got, the participants of rely with gassing and horns have shown the power of their machines.
Ministry of tourism earlier informed all border crossings and the traffic police to enable undisturbed pass through of the convoy. The patrols escorted the participants of rely in order for the incidents to be avoided.
Rely which connects Europe and Asia started on the 29th of April from London, and until the 5th of May the participants will cross 3.000 miles to Asia and back, through 16 countries.
The founder of the “Gumball 3000” is the English rich man Maximillian Cooper, ad the race soon got the reputation of the “most glamorous rely” with over 100 millions of spectators and promotional articles in prestigious world magazines.
The participation in the race is paid with “just” 40.000 pounds per car with two passengers. Those who are permanent participants pay 10.000 pounds less. This sum covers the expenses of the transport by plane, accommodation, food, but the fuel, insurance, and tickets for breaking of speed limit each contestant has to pay from their own pocket. The win in this race is a matter of prestige, even though to everyone is more important to have a great time, and to o course, show their madly expensive cars.
After Macedonia, Montenegro, and Dubrovnik the rich racers go towards Bratislava, and then towards London where the race will be ended.
KILLED A MACEDONIAN
One of the participants of the prestigious rely, the driver of a “Porsche” English citizen Nicolas Morin (30) a day before yesterday near Struga crashed into a “golf” and killed the driver Vladimir Cepujnovski. His wife Margarita with severe injuries has been transferred to Skoplje where the doctors are fighting for her life.
English citizen has run away from the place of the accident and has tried to leave Macedonia, but the border organs have managed to stop and take in Morin, and his c-pilot Mathew Mcconvile who were put in the jail for 30 days.
In the previous years these kind of accidents have happened, but also some smaller incidents when the extravagant starts have been chasing with the police, when they have run away from local gangs, and beat with the peasants because of the damaged fields.
