Budva – Even though the official list has not been made, and most likely the European statistics still hasn’t heard about small Budva, what is sure is that Montenegrin capital of tourism is a town with the biggest number of millionaires per capita.
It is estimated that in Budva lives about 200 millionaires, and all of them are from here, so if that is compared to the number of citizens, then on every 50th citizen – comes one millionaire. Sound unbelievable, but it is true.
The area which a few decades ago was a poor fishing region has been turned into the riches space of former Yugoslavia.
Land owners, mostly local people, in the last few years have started selling a bit by bit of their inheritance and they mostly got for that, large sums of money, which sometimes reach even several millions of euros.
Not even the figure of 200 millionaires is final, because every day a rumor goes through the town that this or that family has sold some piece of their land and got a much bigger sum of money than their neighbor got. And so on goes the contest among the neighbors about who will find a more generous buyer, who are no longer just Russians who do not ask for the price, but instead there are more and more Irishmen, Belgians, French and Dutch buyers.
Because of that certain trading fever there is less and less land on good locations which is for sale, and the price of the square meter reaches amazing 1.000 euros, the amount of money which should be given for a square meter of an apartment in some Belgrade quart.
Euphoria of the sale of real estates which in the past year has caught up Montenegro, and which culminated in the area of Budva Riviera has bred with itself another new sociological category – “Newly made rich men”.
Those are mostly people, who became millionaires over night, and they were the middle classes, but among them there are those who in the years of crisis barely made the ends meet. Therefore the millionaires brought dilemmas – what to do with that amount of money, and stay sane. Around Budva go various anecdotes about how newly made rich men are spending their money”.
As by a rule, millionaires spend the money which they got from the sale of the real estates for the purchase of real estate, so people from Budva, as soon as they get money on their account or in cash they go to Podgorica or Belgrade where they buy apartments. There almost isn’t a family which hasn’t bought one or more apartments, business spaces, in “the circle of two” or in the narrowest center of Belgrade. There is a story that one man from Budva didn’t buy an apartment in General Zdanova steet in the very center of Belgrade, because in the building there was no garage. That man from Budva, even though he doesn’t live in the Serbian capital, wants to provide to his four-wheeler a “roof over his hood”. And when we are talking about cars, that is a special story, because there are few of those who didn’t manage to resist spending a part of their money for the purchase of most expensive limousines, knowing that the money invested in that looses on its value. That is why on the streets of Budva at the moment the newest models of world most famous car brands are driven. One can notice that people from Budva prefer jeeps, so the long time deficit of parking spaces is now even more expressed, because several “hummers” or BMW jeeps occupy the entire parking, not leaving any space for the guests.
Throwing off with the money goes up to that point that the money is being spent for the purchase of status symbols such as wrist watches, which, when we are talking about unique things costs up to several dozens of thousands of euros. The money is also being spent for the purchase of expensive lighters, shirt buttons, brand clothes and footwear and for fun… Because as people like to say “life is only one”. With bare eye one can see that a lot of people are investing in renewal and additional building of houses which over night are turning into grandiose villas with pools, equipped with expensive furniture, private gyms.
The money which is left over, after pleasing of all “very needed little things” are being invested in banks, euros are given in fixed-term deposits in banks in Podgorica, because even though all banks have their offices in Budva, millionaire thrust more to the bank man in the capital city.
It wouldn’t be strange if some men from Budva joined the owner of Serbian corporation “Delta” Miroslav Miskovic who is the first men from Balkan listed in the Forbs list of billionaires, because many have hectares and hectares of land left in the hinterland which is more and more becoming a hit among the insatiable buyers.
Now follow the yachts
The new fetish of the rich man, as those well informed say, represent also the see beauties, so it is expected that this summer many millionaires will bind some of the precious yachts in the city marina.
Yachts, which everywhere in the world represent one of the trademarks of rich man, have become more and more favorite toys of domestic millionaires too. It can be expected that during the Navigation fair, which will be organized for First of May holidays in the City harbor, the unique models will find new owners among people from Budva.
