Tivat – Mayor of Tivat, Dragan Kankaras marked that the classical sale of Tivat airport would not be in the interest of the state, which according to his opinion should keep the decisive role in the management of that airport as well as in the management of the airport Golubovci. Commenting the announcement from the Government that this year a strategy for privatization of PE Airports of Montenegro will be made, Kaknkaras said that according to his opinion, additional capitalization from the side of the interested partners is a much better solution than the classical sale of the airports.
– In every potential future privatization either of airport Tivat or in transformation of AM, the Municipality of Tivat will be a partner with that part of the property which it has in the complexes of the airport – said Kankaras, reminding that the local administration in Tivat in the present airport has a significant share of the property, mainly land.
– You know that, for example, we haven’t sold our land to Airports of Montenegro, on which last year the new part of the airport approaching building was made, but we leased it, counting that it is better that in that way we can “keep the contact” and take part in everything through possible future transformations and privatizations – said Kankaras pointing out that the management of the Municipality Tivat thinks that the ownership transformation of the most circulated Montenegrin airport should be made through additional capitalization, so “from a determined percent of the ownership, management or anything else neither the state nor the Municipality would have to renounce”.
Tivat airport has exquisite perspective and we will try to contribute the further development and successful business of that airport – said Kankaras hyphenating that he thinks that the state should not renounce its part in the management of the airport, but if it does that anyway, Municipality of Tivat will not renounce its real estate – management interests.
The issue of change of the ownership structure on the airport Tivat for a longer time has been in the focus of the public, which after the AM have taken over from JAT, almost four years ago the management of the airport, was left “short sleeved” despite the former promises from Podgroica that “when we get back Montenegrin airports, people from Tivat will again be in charge of their property on the airport”.
In practice, on the contrary, it happened that the Belgrade monopoly over the management of the property and incomes of the airport Tivat in the name of Podgorica took over and continued the management of AM, so people from Tivat even today do not know what income does their airport have, and why all the money is going on one account in Podgorica. In the meantime, the signals from Croatia came that people from Dubrovnik, will be a harder “nut to crack” than people from Tivat when we are talking about the valorization of their property on the airport Tivat, so the Croatian press wrote that getting a share in the ownership over the Tivat airport is one of the options for settling of a part of war damage which was made in Croatia. The management of the airport Dubrovnik has shown a great interest to get a share in the property and management of the Tivat airport, which they would additionally modernize and equip because the airport in Cilipi is more and more jammed with the great scope of traffic, and Tivat is an ideal alternative if the plane cannot land on Cilipi, which has problems during the stronger tempest.
STATE TO KEEP THE INFRASTRUCTURE
– In every option the state has to remain the owner of the primary infrastructure, and everything that is called non aviation or service activities of the airport, even some aviation services, such as receiving of planes when the volume of traffic demands that, can be the subject of privatization. In every option, I think that Montenegro has to manage the primary traffic infrastructures – runaway, rural paths, standings and terminal building. That has to be kept in permanent ownership of the state because that is the essential interest of every citizen of Montenegro – said the director of AM, Milovan Djurickovic.
He added that that attitude is “based on the international experiences, but also on what is the interest of our citizens”.
He stayed yesterday in Tivat so that he would talk with the people from the Municipality about the models of cooperation, having in mind the property of the town in the complex of the present airport.
