Podgorica – Ornithologist Darko Saveljic had rejected that Ada Bojana is a “natural park with protected biodiversity” and has invited Montenegrin Government and the counsel for Privatization to protect by law the entire island before they announce a tender for lease of the island.
– Ada Bojana unfortunately is not a protected area in Montenegro. Without a special reason, the state has missed a chance to do that in 1968 when it protected the majority of beaches. With the national legislation the entire Ada should be protected, its beach and its hinterland, as a unique domicile on the Mediterranean – said Saveljic.
He reacted on the text, which “Vijesti” have published, that the Government will not allow the sale of the island, but only “a long term lease and a tourist valorization”. In the text it is also said that Ada Bojana “for the major part is a natural park with protected biodiversity”, and that it is “a unique developmental opportunity which can be compared to the sustainable ecological sensitive and well integrated complexes for resr” which were built by Laurence Rockefeller.
– Not even Rockefeller on whom the Government is addressing at did not invest in unprotected areas. I know that because I have visited several parks of his in the USA. That is an important pre condition, which will oblige every future user to wisely deal with that area. Under that it is understood we mean the construction of tourist capacities only on the part of the island on which previously there were some constructions, and the construction of eco –paths for which the World Bank has already shown some interest – stated Saveljic.
He thinks that only with a previous protection we can preserve the “virgin island” – the empire of jackals, wild pigs, sea turtles, dolphins, and numerous pairs of herons, cormorants, and predators.
That in the future will be main trump for bringing of tourists, because the number of those who are ready to pay to spend the entire day on the beach is every year fewer. It is logical that tourists will more gladly visit a protected area than the unprotected one. And, what is most important, the season of tourism in this kind of areas lasts during the entire year – considers Saveljic.
He pointed out that the island is a part of the so-called “green zone of Europe” in which eco-tourism is most intensively being developed.
– Ada is a part of the “green zone of Europe’ which in the period of the cold war separated SFRJ, the east and the west political block. Those areas were strictly controlled by the military, so they have stayed intact. Exactly in the areas such as Ada, most intensively eco tourism is being developed. “The green zone” has become a trade mark which should be used in promotion of Ada – states Saveljic.
