Kotor – The reconstruction of the tunnel Vrmac which began in June 2005 will be terminated latest until the end of the month when the new modern tunnel will be released for traffic – said yesterday for “Vijesti” manager of the municipality of Kotor, Srdja Kovacevic.
He said that the terminating works on the secondary lagging are in process, they are making the edge tracks and sidewalks and in a few days they will start the works on preparation of the road for asphalting. After the termination of the construction works, then follow the electrical works of strong power and the illumination of the tunnel, and the preparation works for placement of the ventilators and accompanying systems for ventilation are in progress. The works on the construction of the reservoir for water are in the phase of cementing, and the pipe works are being placed – said Kovacevic. He points out that the repair of the tunnel Vrmac was one of the most complex works which are done on the road infrastructure in Montenegro in the last 15 to 20 years.
– The works in the tunnel Vrmac by its nature were more complex than the works on the construction of new facilities. Firstly, because of the need for certain parts of the existing construction to be preserved, that is, the central collector, the road, water tanks and other – said Koacevic.
Except that, on the 26th of December 2005 in the tuned an unpredicted situation occurred, the breaking of a rock in the length from the 20th to the 30th meter, which has slowed down the termination of the entire reconstruction for about 8 months.
– Because of the extremely unfavorable position and the slope of the layers of the rock in this part of the tunnel the landslip in the next few days had spread on the length of about 150 meters. With the construction of the protective rings on both sides of the landslip the further collapsing of the layers of the rock has been stopped. The permanent repair solution demanded the making of the technical documentation which lasted for first two months in the year 2006, and the works on this repair lasted about 8 months. Otherwise, for the first time in Montenegro a specific technique of the pipe shield for a new digging of the tunnel in this section was applied – said Kovacevic.
One of the main problems in the tunnel Vrmac, especially in the rainy periods when the extra water of about 10 second liters was made, which significantly jeopardized the traffic, is solved, says Kovacevic, with the construction of a gallery from the stationary of the tunnel towards Kotor, which will serve to take away the water – explained Kovacevic.
– The gallery which has the dimensions 2,5 with 2,5 so that it can take significantly bigger amounts of water than those which are expected to appear as an extra. This solution has multiple intentions, and those are taking away of the extra water from the tunnel, water supply of Kotor from the tanks, making of tanks, as well as the possibility of evacuating of people during the possible excess situation in the tunnel – explained Kovacevic.
He points out that the new tunnel will completely fulfill the European technical normative.
The tunnel will have the installations of electrical illumination, electro motor ventilation, control of the level of damaging gases and temperature, automatic information about the fire, video surveillance, dispatch center, protection from the atmosphere emptying, installation of the control of the size of the vehicle, control of the speed of the vehicle in t he approaching zone of the tunnel, computer installation and other. The contractor is the Austrian company “Schtracbah” and the producer is Niksic “Boksiti”.
