Budva – Probably no one has dreamed that people from Budva will anxiously wait for their guests to leave as soon as possible, and that the announcement of the sunny weather is one of the news that doesn’t make them happy. The taps in the metropolis of tourism have been dry for days, and they will have more water when the need for it decreases, that is when the guests leave Budva and when the first fall rains start falling.
The crisis of the waterworks system has thrown a shadow over the exquisite tourist season because now even those who are very close to the sea do not have sufficient water. Tropical summer with extremely high temperatures, wells with the minimum of water and great spending of water because of the very good tourist visit have brought the entire waterworks system to its final limits.
Instead of average 360 secondary liters with which Budva was supposed to have at its disposal during this summer it has 180 secondary liters. The crisis became even bigger when Cetinje decided to deprive Budva with 30 secondary liters which they were giving them from their wells and that decision came as a result of the problems of water supply of the capital town.
Cisterns every day go to city lodgments on higher positions, the plan of restrictions is being published in local media, crowds on public taps are big and the tradesmen who trade with water are very pleased – that is the picture which you can see in Budva these days.
The sale of bottled water, and especially the sale of the one in demijohns has broken all records, but the greatest profit had the illegal tradesmen who transport water with cisterns and sell it at extremely high prices. City waterworks system has spoken yesterday in public saying that the citizens should restrain themselves from spending too much water.
Because of the poor inflow from all wells from which the spenders in the municipality of Budva are supplied with water PE ViK Budva has began new, more severe regime of restrictions about which the spenders are daily informed mostly through local media. From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. as well as from 6 p.m. till midnight lodgments Rafailovici, Becici, Ivanovici, and Boreti were without water.
Lodgments Podkosljun, Lazi, Rozino, Velji Vinogradi, Mainski put, Gospostina, Dubovica, Bijeli do, and Babin do were without water from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. When there are no restrictions in the lodgments between the round about and the highway, because of the poor inflow the water can’t reach the taps, which are, located more than 20 meters above the sea level – said PR of the Waterworks Vesna Mrvaljevic.
According to her words in residential units which are located above the round about the water can reach only ground floors, maybe even the first floor.
– For spenders who are located 20 meters above the sea level we will provide water with cisterns. For spenders on Lower zone of Petrovac we apply the regime of restrictions every day from midnight until 5 a.m. We ask all the consumers in buildings who have their own reservoir spaces or private reservoirs not to spend that water too much because we have less and less water in our water system. Same notifications apply to users of joint reservoir spaces. Majority of spenders in Budva, when there is not enough water in the city water system will be supplied with cisterns, which regularly fill collective and other reservoir spaces. Because of the extremely poor inflow of water all leasers of beaches are asked to reduce the usage of water on beaches, to close down the showers, and not to allow people to use showers. If not we will be forced to shut them off the waterworks system and we shall apply later even some high financial punishments – warned Mrvaljevic. She repeated the request for green areas, park, and gardens not to be irrigated.
Only in this way the users will help us to maintain this kind of water supply and not to jeopardize this or the following tourist season – concluded Mrvaljevic.
Except their owns and the cisterns of Communal enterprise Waterworks has engaged 5 private owners who get the water free of charge to lodgments which need the water the most, to which they take more than a hundred of cisterns per day.
PRICES OF WATER ARE SKY HIGH
Even though the Market inspection has publicly announced that they haven’t registered a single illegal water transporter and even though they have asked all those who have some information to tell that to the inspection it is a public secret that there are dozens of cisterns who have great profit.
As it can be heard in the town one cubic of water which these transporters bring cost from 10 to 20 euros, up to 20 times more then the one which you pay from the waterworks system, while a cistern of water depending on the cubic is 60 to 100 euros.
Company Mercur has given free of charge their technical water to citizens so in front of their hydrants near the Bus station every day you can see dozens of peple who are waiting in line to take some water for basic hygiene needs.
