Plav – Nine mountain climbers from Split, members of mountain club “Split” in the past few days were guests of mountain association “Karanfil” (Carnation) from Gusinje and they wee climbing on summits of Prokletije.
On the first day a group of 23 mountain climbers began to climb on the biggest summit of Prokletije, Maja jezerce on 2.694 meters of height above the sea level, and 13 of those 23 made it. The leader Nenad Jelinic said that they are thrilled with their first staying on Prokletije, and with the beautiful nature of Prokletije, especially with the rocks which are suitable for alpine climbing.
– The rocks provide exquisite conditions for alpine climbing and they are unique in Europe. This is our first staying here, but the next time for sure we will have a greater number of mountain climbers especially alpine climbers – said Jelinic.
During their staying in Gusinje one group of mountain climbers climbed the summits of Karaula 1.905, Popadija 2.057, and Talijanka 2.056 meters of height above the sea level, while for another group they organized a tour around the cultural and historical monuments on the area of Plav municipality. Guests from Split have the chance to see Ali pasha’s springs, waterfall Grlja, Oko Skakavice, (The eye of arrester catch) and Plav lake, as well as numerous old stone houses and religious facilities.
As the president of MA Karanfil Rifat Mulic said this after the last year’s visit of mountain climbers from Rijeka is the second group of mountain climbers from Croatia which have visited Plav municipality after 17 years, with which they have renewed and reestablished a former cooperation which was interrupted by events in 1990’s.
