National Park Skadar Lake, in cooperation with IRD USAID, has started a project of the construction of a center for visitors in Rijeka Crnojevica and Murici. The centers will, according to the words of the director of the NP Skadar Lake, Zoran Mrdak, be made of 4 wooden houses, pile dwellings, of 25m2. The pile dwellings should be opened for the visitors starting from the March of the next year.
– In center in Rijeka Crnojevici the program of the sailing and fishing will be presented, and in Murici we will have olive growing and ethnology of that area presented. All the centers will have a souvenir shop and an info bureau. As a part of that project three walking paths with educational equipment will be marked – said Mrdak.
In the souvenir shop, local people will be able to sell their souvenirs and characteristic food of that area. Mrdak said that in those centers visitors will have a chance to get all the necessary permits for fishing, as well as to pay all the administrative taxes for the park. In such away, beside Vranjina and Virpazar, he said, River Crnojevici and Murici will also contribute to the more successful development of tourism in that area. The total value of that project is 105 thousands of euros, and beside the NP and IRD, in the financing of the construction of the pile dwellings Bar tourist organization will be included too.
During the tourist season, National Park was visited by over 18 thousand people, which, according to the words of Mrdak, is 20% more compared to last year.
– The visitors were mostly interested for a one day cruise over the lake. The Center for the visitors on Vranjina, which beagn to work this year, was visited by several thousands of people, among whom 95 of them were foreigners. The most attractive contents which were in offer were sailing on board, watching of birds, drive in canoes etc – said Mrdak.
In the goal of improvement of the tourist season they have removed the junk from the most attractive tourist locations such as: Zabljak Crnojevica, Karuc, Rijeka Crnojevica, Lesendro etc. This year they have established a Day of Skadar Lake which is celebrated in the third week of June.

National Park will soon start the action of removal and destroying of the old, abandoned, metal boats from the lake. According to Mrdak’s words, not only that they are devastating the ambient values, but very often they are a danger for those who do not know their locations.
-According to the regulation which was made by the vessel unit of MIA, there are over 70 abandoned metal boats in the lake. The National Park is calling for the owners of the boats to remove them from the lake b themselves before the action begins – said Mrdak.
MOVIE ABOUT SKADAR LAKE
One of the most significant activities of NP, according to the Mrdak’s words, is happening in the Center for visitors and it is the school in nature. For a month and a half the school was visited by over 1, 500 children of pre school and school age.
– Since the interest is significant, in NP we are constantly working on creation of new contents. We are just now preparing the work sheets about Skadar Lake, and a movie was made about our National Park which the visitor and the children which will be involved in the school of nature will be able to see in the hall for projections. All f this is done in the goal of making our visitors find out as much as possible about Skadar Lake – said Mrdak.
