Herceg Novi – In Herceg Novi Harbor yesterday, at dawn sailed in the first of 22 sail boats in the regatta from Bari under the name “Trofeo terra da mare”.
It is the ship “Fec 4”, which is 23, 9 meters long, and the height of its sails is 35 meters. It has 11 crewmembers and a skipper, Mikel Schamatic. At the same time it is the biggest vessel taking part in the regatta. However the winner will be announced tomorrow, after it is established who has fulfilled the criteria of the regatta.
On the way of 105 miles from Bari to Herceg Novi, the participants had difficulties because of the restless sea and night storm. Until yesterday at noon, in city harbor in Herceg Novi, doze of sail boats docked in, and some of them, at the end of the regatta, were slowed down by the completely calm sea.
When we are talking about Montenegrin boats “Jedi” 9, 98 meters long, with captain Sasa Kekovic came first. In front of him was Belgrade “Alligator”, 12,5 meters long with captain Vojislav Radivojevic.
– Weather prognosis was wrong. When we started the south wind was blowing, and the west wind was in the middle of the Adriatic Sea. A lot of boats have been damaged, and a lot of them gave up the race. Between Kekovic and me the decision was made in last few minutes, but, we came before them still. When we came 5 miles from Mamula, at the entrance in the bay, the wind stopped, so we needed four, four and a half hours to the harbor – said Radivojevic.
The regatta was “very serious”, he said, “but they had a great time”.
– The regatta was pretty demanding with a lot of turnovers. We started with the wind of three to four Beauforts, and when we came close to our territory we had a bad weather with thunders. In the bad weather our fence broke, a part of the mast also – said Kekovic.
Regatta “Trofeo terra da mare” has three stages of which the first is the regatta from Bari to Herceg Novi.
The second stage is the today’s Cup of Herceg Novi, while the third stage is the planned regatta from Herceg Novi to Bari.
