Morinj – The wheel of family mill Catovica at Morinj after it stopped to mil grains years turned in vain, reminding of some other times and lively that characterize such places.
At the beginning of 90’s of last century Lazar Catovic decided to revive old mill and to fit it as catering property. He stated modestly, without great ambition. In the beginning he offered only drink, cheese, ham and salty sardines and the first guests were friends from the place. Soon for exquisite ambient and offer of restaurant was heard about. There were more and more guests and they “made” him to start to prepare more elaborate menu. With good chef and quality food, conoba Catovica mlini became synonym for refined gastronomic offer. Apart fish specialties, shells, various kinds of salads of seafood, home made cheese and ham and many other specialties in the offer are beverages home and world wide.
With enriching of gastronomic offer, Lazar arranged conoba and vicinity with numerous wells and streams. Near conoba grow figs, lemon and orange trees and exotic kinds as bamboo, camellia and mimosa but also authentic Mediterranean spices. At conoba one can meet pop stars, famous artists and politicians as well as ordinary people. Lazar says that he does not make change among guests. He will give same attention and time. Several years ago he refused to cancel a table who already reserved and for that reason he did not host one sheik who wished to come to Catovica mlini. Lazar considers that more important than money is confidence and respect of guest no matter of his pocket.
