Kotor – Even though they are situated on a very attractive location on 550 m height above sea level, with exquisite view on Bay of Boka Kotorska, Pljice, the most southern Krivosije village above the well Sopot in Risan, still doesn’t have the basic conditions for life, the electricity and water.
The village has suitable coastal climate, with mild winters and a lot of sunny days, and if the snow falls it stays there very short. The local people say that the village is known for the great honey, as well as by the well known sheep and goat cheese.
In Poljice there used to live about 30 households, but it was several times scattered when the inhabitants left the place, mostly they went to Kosovo polje (KOSOVO FIELD) and Niksic, and today they live in Kotor and Risan.
In Poljice at the moment only 5 households are active, mostly older people who beside the lack of basic life conditions do not want to leave their home. In Poljice live families Odalovic, Risteljic and Kovac.
Beside the fact that there is no water and electricity, Poljice is unapproachable for everyone since the 1995 when next to the village was built the part of the future highway Risan – Niksic – Zabljak.
-The making of a kilometer, kilometer and a half of the road towards the village and the village church for us was as if we were conquering America. Thanks to the great effort of us, local people, and with the help of the republic Direction for roads, the road towards the village and the village church was made, which meant a lot for us. However, even though there is a project we still do not have the electricity, and we get water from the cisterns – said for “Vijesti” a local men, Slobo Odalovic who lives with his family in Risan, while his parents live in Poljice.
He adds that the lack of basic conditions for life is the reason why people left the village. Odalovic thinks that if the conditions for a normal life were made, many people would return, especially because of the fact that with the construction of the future highway towards Risan they would be able to come in just 15 minutes.
It is interesting that in the last year Poljice are more and more frequently visited by foreigners who are showing the interest for purchase, and recently, says Odalovic, appeared some Englishmen who are interested to buy the entire village.
-The village is situated in the attractive location, with mild climate, it is sunny, faced towards the bay, the nature is not contaminated and it is intact, it is close to the sea, and that is what attracts the foreigners – says Odalovic. Odlaovic points out that it is characteristic that the villages in Kotor and Risan hinterland are undeveloped, in difference, as he says, to the Herceg Novi Municipality with which village Poljice borders from the west.
Odalvoic remembered an interesting thing when two years ago in hotel “Teuta” in Risan stayed a group of tourists from Germany who every day walked for recreation to Poljice.
-My father once invited them into the house, treated them with domestic products and talked to them. However, one older German spotted in the house a petroleum lamp and he was so bewildered and surprised, explaining that he has traveled all over the Europe and that so far he has never noticed something like a petroleum lamp. I remember that he asked my father to stay in the house until the evening so that he can see how that lamp functions and illuminates the space. After that my father had to escort the German and light his way towards Risan – said Odalovic.
SOON A MONASTERY TOO
Poljice is an old village, which is testified by the old church of Sveta Petka, which is two centuries old, as well as with the graveyard which was made long before the church.
The church was damaged several times. The last time it was damaged was in the World War II, and ten years ago local people, with the help of donations of our people who live in America, they have brought it to a decent shape. A new roof was placed, and a belfry for which before he died the local men., Gojko Odalovic have a donation from America – said Odlaovic and added that now they are working on decoration of the interior of the church which will soon be sanctified. He says that they have received the blessings of the Metropolitan’s residence that after a renewal of the church they can build a monastery there.
