Tivat – Enterprise “Maritime traffic” (Pomorski saobracaj) from Kamenari is starting a construction of the new ferry which will be used on the line Kamenari – Lepetani in Boka – it was said yesterday from that company.
The executive director and the major owner of the “Maritime traffic” Dejan Ban said that the current capacities of the fleet, which is made of three small and one bigger ferry, are not sufficient to satisfy the needs of the traffic during the period of the biggest summer jams, that is the in the peak of the season in July and August.
– That is why the need imposed itself for that “narrow throat” on the sea to be solved with a procuring of another boat which will be built in the shipbuilding yard in Izola in Slovenia, and which will be delivered at the beginning of May next year. That boat will be the first new construction in the Montenegrin maritime fleet after a long period – said Ban, who couldn’t say precisely how much will the construction of the ferry cost.
He said that the contract about the construction of the ferry which will be 59, 7 meters long, 16 meters wide, and with a draft of 2, 2 meters has been signed with the shipbuilding yard in Izola a month ago, and that these days they will start to cut the first iron profiles and place the keel of the new ship on the dry dock in Slovenia. The capacity of the new ship, which was constructed by the bureau “Boat consulting” from Rijeka is up to 60 small cars, which is a 20% more than at the ferry “Igalo”, at the moment the biggest in the fleet of the “Maritime traffic”.
Thanks to the modern solution of the section complex, the new ferry during the docking in Lepetane in difference to other ships will not have to turn. With that they will significantly get benefits in time of the duration of the ride.
The constriction of the new ferry will be watched over by the Service of technical inspectorships of the Management of the maritime security of Montenegro, which from the beginning has been included in the realization of the project.
