Niksic – The contract about the long term business and technical cooperation (signed in 1992, reconstructed in 2006) with the Republic of Serbia does not contain articles or regulations related to the level of Piva lake, it was said for “Vijesti” from the management of ECM (Electrical Company of Montenegro).
The management has stated that they are not familiar that until 1996 there used to exist a regulation about the holding of maximal level of the lake during the summer.
– As a part of that contract that regulation for sure does not exist – it was said from EC. HE “Piva” from the release in function 30 years ago has been operating as a part of Electrical Company of Serbia. For the maximal electricity engaged at one moment Montenegro gets “regular electricity” in the ration 1:1, 415. With the last long term contract, which was signed last summer, management of ECM has managed to strengthen the valorization for several percents, but there is not a word for the first time in the contract about the clauses such as a possibility of break up of the contract by both sides, and the exploiting of Piva lake during the summer.
Piva Lake until the middle of 70’ in the period from 1st of July until the 1st of September was held at the maximal level, or top most 2 meters below that measure. The reason, in the first line, was the development of tourism. Until then along the 45 kilometers long accumulation hundreds of campers, fisherman, and swimmers stayed. A pontoon with pools, jumping boards, boats, and pedal vessels were installed on the shore, while several restaurants were in function on the coast.
After the 1996 during the summer the lake was dried out, leaving the immense space of mud and bog. People from Pluzine often could see the chimneys ant the walls of the houses of sank “Old Pluzine”.
At the initiative of the ex executive director PhD Radomir Milovic since the year 2001 ECM has managed to bring to pass from the colleagues in ECS to spare Piva lake during the summer. The expansion f tourist development of Montenegro in the last couple of years has been felt in Pluzine too, where several ethno villages have been opened, a hotel was renewed; the offer was enriched with cruising and camping in Stabne.
However, the new management of ECM last year didn’t remember to implant the regulation about the holding of the level of Piva lake in the contract, so the so far, and the new investments are still on ice.
