Budva – Considering the fact that the guests still are coming in large numbers to spend their summer vacation on Montenegrin coast everything is telling us that the main season will be extended and that the record will be broken, which will surpass 1980’s which are considered to be the golden years of Montenegrin tourism.
According to the words of the director of the National tourist organization of Montenegro, Sasa Radovic, last Friday we had 61% more tourists than at the same time last year, and already now with great certainty we can say that we have a record season in front of us, the best one in the last 2 decades which most probably will surpass the prognosis about the increase of the number of overnight stays of 10%.
– What is encouraging and what we have pointed out as a strategic goal is significantly faster increase of income from tourism from the number of overnight stays. It was 36% for the first seven months of this year, that is about 250 millions of dollars, and the trends show that this year we will have more than half a billion of dollars of income from tourism – said for the Summer Radovic.
Which, in your opinion, are other important characteristics of this summer?
– Significantly faster growth of financial indicators rather than physical indicators is one of the most important traits of this season. Extension of the season by both geographical and time axe is the second one, by us defined trait of summer of 2007 year. The season began much earlier than before and it will go deep into the fall so already now we can speak about the season which has lasted for 8 months. Together with the winter tourist season we are quickly going towards out goal and that is 365 days of tourist season in Montenegro. The interest for Montenegrin mountains during the summer has become great, and our national parks are noting great visit. Rafting, hiking tours, staying in summer pasture villages were just some of the hit activities of this summer. Excursion tourism is in expansion which we can see from the information we get from Cetinje, Skadar Lake, Monastery Ostrog and from Kotor. Capacities of our marinas on the coast were too small to receive all those interested owners of yachts of various dimensions which cruised over our waters under the flags of diverse countries. Cleaner towns, modern hotels with accompanying contents, significantly improved quality of private accommodation, more arranged swimming resort zones, first category of the sea water on majority of swimming resorts, quality of culturally entertaining program and animation of tourists are additional quality of this year’s season. Structure of tourists has also changed as a consequence of the faster growth of the number of tourists from western countries and from Central and North Europe. We had more of them than tourists from the region.
This summer we had a lot of problems and complaints of tourist especially related t water supply…
– Even though with the campaign of the Ministry of tourism and protection of environment we legalized 50.000 beds we still have significant number of facilities and weekend apartments which are being illegally used for accommodation of tourists, and they burden the communal infrastructure, and do not pay the bills. In the following period NTO together with the ministry will be one of the initiators for a decision to be made about encouraging – restrictive measure with which we will encourage all those who wish to legalize their activities in tourism, and as well punish all those who do not wish the same. At moments we had some outstanding circumstances in certain municipalities when we are talking about the water supply but we also had some objective factors such as unremembered tropical summer followed with great drought which significantly influenced the season. In expectation of finalization of the most significant project in the next three years – project of regional waterworks for the coast, all municipalities according to their abilities have been engaged in solving of this problem which already for 20 years has been very present in Montenegro and which is a burden of Montenegrin tourism.
In which direction will the promotion of Montenegro for the next season go, and will you give special attention to some market?
We will continue to promote Montenegro on markets which will contribute to further extension of tourist season and increase of income per guest. That mainly is the market of European Union. Through promotional channels which membership in European commission for tourism and traveling is providing for us we will open the door to cross Atlantic destinations. We will dedicate ourselves to specialized smaller groups of tourists who prefer the mountain part of Montenegro and various activities in that area (hiking, biking) as well as to MICE market (Meetings, incentive, conferences, and events) that is to something which in the previous period was know as congress tourism. We are planning to open representative mission of NTO. Our intention is to have it in Germany in Frankfurt.
