Gornja Lastva

Gornja Lastva is a picturesque Tivat village, especially appealing to visit during summer. This rural area near Tivat holds significant value. Situated at 300 meters above sea level, it lies in Tivat’s hinterland on the slopes of Vrmac hill.

Historical and Architectural Significance

Mentioned in the 16th-century Statute of Kotor as part of its district, Gornja Lastva features about 20 simply built stone houses. Most yards display grape trellises, interior gardens, stone benches, and water cisterns. A baroque-style church dedicated to the Birth of the Holy Mother of God stands here, with the village square historically used for festivities, parties, and trading.

Today, the village and its inhabitants attract researchers of traditional coastal building. Indeed, in recent years, the NGO “Expeditio” has organized international architectural workshops in Gornja Lastva, highlighting its cultural importance.

Tourism and Cultural Events

Close to Tivat, Gornja Lastva draws increasing numbers of tourists and visitors annually. Consequently, this is largely due to the traditional “Festivities of Lastva” held in August. This cultural-artistic manifestation aims to cherish the culture, tradition, and cuisine of Boka Kotorska.

Visitors can enjoy authentic Boka music, folk round dances, and games. Moreover, culture enthusiasts have opportunities to view exhibitions of paintings by Tivat fine art creators, enhancing the village’s appeal.
