Church of St. John
Inside the Old Town of Budva, you will come across the Church of St. John. This church was built on the remains of a seventh-century structure, with its current appearance dating from the fifteenth century. It is a three-story basilica featuring Gothic details on the façade. Moreover, a belfry was added in 1867, and on the south side, the bishop’s castle was constructed.
Many valuable artifacts are kept in the church, including the icon of the Holy Mother of God with Christ, known as Budvanska Bogorodica. According to legend, this icon is attributed to St. Luke, while experts date it to the thirteenth century. Consequently, other notable items include a painting of St. Peter and Paul from the Venetian school, icons of Greek origin, and a painting of St. Luke by Anastas Bocaric.
