Nemanjica Grad
Nemanjica Grad is a medieval fortification in Podgorica, Montenegro, located at the confluence of the Ribnica and Morača rivers. It is traditionally considered the birthplace of the founder of the Serbian Nemanjić dynasty and features remains of bulwarks and towers, now a cultural monument and picnic area.
Historical Significance and Location
In the very heart of the town at the mouth of Ribnica into Morača, one can find the remains of the bulwarks and towers of the medieval fortification of Ribnica. According to tradition, here was born the founder of the Serbian dynasty Nemanjica Grad. It is a very strong fortified lodgment which only partially resisted the ravages of time, and today, after smaller architectonic interventions, it represents a monument of culture and a mini picnic area for people from Podgorica and fishermen.
The picturesque caves in the very complex contribute to the feeling that history has stopped for the moment, and remained a part of the Nemanjica Grad forever. Consequently, this site offers a unique blend of historical depth and natural beauty, making it a must-visit for those exploring Montenegro’s rich heritage.
