Durmitor area as generally speaking entire northern Montenegro is extremely specific territory when we are talking about food and drink. People from these areas since forever thanks to the climate and physical works in which they were engaged used strong the so-called high energetic food. In Durmitor meals then and now cereal products such as many kinds of breads and bannocks – wheat, corn, rye and bread made of buckwheat dominate.
Especially specific meals which inevitably you have to taste, and which are a part of Durmitor everyday are: kacamak (mushy strong meal), which is made of potato, wheat or corn flour depending on your choice; then cicvara – extremely strong and high quality meal, and a range of other products, mostly made of milk, such as skorup (skimmed young cheese), kajmak, pavlaka (cream), and various kinds of cheeses.
When we are talking about drink what you have to try are domestic rakija (brandy), which in these areas is made of plum, pear, apple and juniper, then honey wine (nectar of gods), and in some of the local restaurants you can taste extremely well and quality Montenegrin beers and wines.
