Ostrog Monastery Holidays and Gatherings
Since 1678, when the remains of Saint Basil were dug out of the ground, people have celebrated April 29th—the day he died—as a holiday, which corresponds to May 12th on the new calendar. This is a holy day when no one works; everyone attends church and celebrates. Moreover, the monastery also observes holidays like Petrovdan, Ilindan, and Veliki Gospojini, well-known within the Orthodox Church.
